Correct
Mamdible Imbalance
face shape is not a problem anymore
A chin that is too large may create a proportional imbalance face.
The causes are not clearly identified whether it is genetic or too
large jaw muscles and bone. This problem is normally found in Asian
people. The horizontal protrude of the lower jaw is the abnormality
found that causes rectangular face. |

|
Reshaping
rectangular face to round face is done by genioplasty. The
surgeon does bone reduction with power bone instruments and excises
the lower jaw muscles. There are 2 surgical procedures;
1. Surgery with external incision
The pros are it is less complicated and takes less time
The cons are there are scars on both sides of jaw and nerve system
that control chin muscles may be affected.
2. Surgery with intraoral incision
The pros are there is no external scar and it makes less chance to
affect the nerve system
The cons are the procedure is complicated and time consuming |

The
surgical procedure with intraoral incision is more popular today since
there is no external scar. The procedure takes about 2 - 3 hours and
is performed under general anesthesia and sedation as an inpatient
operation. The patient will experience difficulty in opening mouth.
However, the patient should try to open his mouth as wide as possible
though it is painful in order to avoid jaw lock. The swelling remains
for 3 weeks. The result will be completely shown in 3 - 6 months
